Chile Earthquake March 11
After the huge natural disaster of the Chile earthquake, March 11 saw another devastating aftershock, which measured 6.9 on the Richter scaled. The O’Higgins region of the country saw the epicentre of the movement, but to this point no casualties have been reported.

A long stretch of the Chile coastline had a tsunami warning issued, however later on 11 March the warning was lifted. The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center later said that the size of this Chile earthquake aftershock was not big enough to cause any sort of ’significant destructive tsunami’.
The March 11 Chile earthquake saw people in the capital, Santiago, come out onto the streets in fear as the buildings around them shook – however this time there were no collapses reported.
The new President of Chile, Sebastian Pinera, was due to be sworn in when the earthquake hit. He is the first right-wing president for twenty years – and he takes over from the country’s first woman president, Michelle Bachelet.
Rancagua, a coastal town in Chile, reported ’significant damage’, as it was very close to the epicentre of the earth movement – but again, no casualties have been reported.
