This Scotland vs England Preview will hopefully help you make your mind up about this exciting Calcutta Cup fixture in the Six Nations calendar. Both Scotland and England are looking for improvement after their poor overall performanes so far this tournament. Both suffered damaging defeats two weeks ago so you can expect quite a backlash.

Scotland vs England Preview

England have lost their last two games at Murrayfield and will be desperate to buck this growing trend. Scotland, after their miserable defeat to the Italians in Rome, know that a defeat is almost certain to leave them with the wooden spoon.

The Scots always play well against England and if truth be told the “lack of ruthlessness” (as coach Andy Robinson puts it) that they have shown elsewhere in this tournament will probably not be a problem today. Scotland are desperate for this win and some may say they deserve it. They haven’t played badly all tournament, apart from 2 weeks ago, and will feel hard done by if they end up with 0 points.

The big pressure will be on Martin Johnson et al though as they struggle to find some consistency in their game. England have flattered to decieve so far this tournament and need a big show today to appease their fans. ‘If’ they lose, the knives will definitely be out for Johnson in tomorrow’s Sunday papers.

In my opinion the English backlash will be too hot for the Scots to handle. The pool of talent at Johnson’s disposal is realistically too great for Scotland to handle and I expect the English to pull out comfortable winners. However, should Scotland get an early try that puts England on the back foot then anything could happen!

The game will start at 17:00 GMT. The venue is Murrayfield in Scotland.

This Scotland vs England Preview will be followed by a live score post during the game so check back for more details later.
